PHOENIX (AP) – The office of an Arizona sheriff known for his efforts against illegal immigrants has arrested 83 people during a two-day crime sweep targeting illegal immigrants.

Of those arrested, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday that 68 were illegal immigrants. Those who were not illegal immigrants were arrested for crimes including drug possession and theft.

The sheriff’s office seized 725 pounds of marijuana and 150 pounds of crystal meth during the operation, which ended Friday. It was the office’s 18th such sweep.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio says his office’s 17 previous sweeps resulted in more than 1,000 arrests. He says a recent rise in the number of human smuggling arrests prompted another sweep.

    I shudder to think what will happen if Joe goes away.
    The government will try to get elected someone who says he is just like Joe but when gets into office is not anything like Joe. Especially if they have a Spanish last name.
    The reason Chicago will have Rahm E. as mayor is because nobody wants a Mexican or Black as mayor.
    You can see what a disaster they bring with them, in other cities.

      Let see….the last 2 guys to run against Joe was Sabin….and he lost by a margin of 70-75%. Me thinks “uncle Joe” has the vote tied up….only worry about when he retires…hope he gets to pick another stand-up guy…
