Martinez Seeks To Revoke Licenses For Illegal Immigrants

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez and a group of state lawmakers plan to revoke the driver’s licenses of illegal immigrants.

During her campaing, Martinez promised to crackdown on illegal immigration. She is getting behind a bill that would prevent illegal immigrants from getting a driver’s license. It would also revoke ones that have already been issued to illegals.

“Giving licenses to people who’re here illegally is wrong,” Martinez said.

Martinez said the bill is mostly about security, saying that New Mexico can no longer afford to be one of the few states that allow illegal immigrants to get a license.

“This needs to stop immediately,” Martinez said.

But in the legislature, some lawmakers are skeptical the bill will get out of committee. A bill that was largely viewed as a compromise on the issue, that would’ve issued illegals a temporary, driving permit, was killed in committee earlier this week.

Marcela Diaz and a small group of other immigrant advocates voiced their disagreement with Martinez’s proposal. They said if the governor is concerned with public safety, this bill is not the way to show it.

“Drivers licenses for immigrants, regardless of immigration status, have been proven to be good for public safety,” Diaz said. “Not only is this going to erode the gains we’ve made in public safety, but it’s going to harm our economy.” The governor’s office said more than 80,000 illegal immigrants carry New Mexico driver’s licenses or state I.D.

NM is one of four state that gives a DL to illegals.
From there they move on and travel to any other state
    acting as legal.

I guess that makes New Mex. a “gate-way” state

We need to stop them from having a bank account, a loan and from transferring money out of the country.

And, from being able to VOTE!

    • Professor Bill

Major banks would stop that, they have made billions off money transfers and from illegals doing their banking there. There are some very unpatriotic corporations in America today, like BofA and Wells. They don’t give a shit about the future as long as they make a buck today.

Hats off, to New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez!

Take it a step further and make it a crime to possess a drivers license if you are here illegally, but after the license is revoked.

    1. All illegal alien drivers licenses have the same social security number which is 000 00 0000. A single key stroke at DMV headquarters would delete this number and revoke all these licenses.
    2. Governor Susana Martinez can line item veto all ear marks for those that voted to table House Bill 261. Miguel Garcia (D-Albuquerque)
    Eleanor Chavez (D-Albuquerque)
    W. Ken Martinez (D-Grants)
    Rick Miera (D-Albuquerque)
    Sheryl Williams Stapleton (D-Albuquerque)
The very best way to get the attention of these 5 house representatives is line item veto each of their most cherished pet projects. This is what 72 year old 3 term governor Jerry Brown of California does when a young legislator draws a line in the sand. Brown says I am to old to have the patience to play your childish game and you are standing in the way of what is best for our state so be informed in advance that when I identify any earmarked bill that you just can’t live without then I will line-item-veto it.
3.Governor Martinez can call a special session to continue this 2 month session to free House Bill 261 from committee so that it can be debated and put to a vote in the NM house and senate. It’s high time New Mexico joined the 21st century and increased its two legislative sessions to 60 and 90 days anyway up from the current 30 and 60 days. If the legislators of New Mexico are really serious about their jobs then this shouldn’t be a problem: New Mexico deserves no less!
4.Governor Martinez’s girl friend Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona can offer advice to Susana on how to deal with the Democratic Legislature which is blocking debate of House Bill 261.
5.A not to far-fetched notion is that all the Democrats that voted to table House Bill 261 have housekeepers that are illegal aliens.
6.The question is posed to the lawmakers who tabled House Bill 261, “what part of the word illegal don’t you understand?” Look the word up in Webster’s dictionary if your confused.
7.80% of the voting public of New Mexico want House Bill 261 reported out of committee for a fair and spirited debate by all the elected members of the legislature.
8.Former Governor Bill Richardson should be invited to participate in this debate. In 2003 Bill Richardson promulgated the administrative guidelines of the illegal alien drivers license law as dictated by President Vicente Fox Quesada of Mexico during his visit to the presidential palace in Mexico City by telephone in 3 separate calls to Santa Fe. The receipt of the information and instructions of these telephone calls resides vividly in the memories of all DMV administrators and assistant administrators who received these guidelines from DMV headquarters on this same day in history. This is a fact that can be verified by interview of DMV administrative personnel most of who are still employed in the various DMV offices though out our state.
9.If the case is made in open public debate that the current law is sound and good for all of New Mexico then House Bill 261 should be abandoned. HB 261 deserves its day of judgment.
10.New Mexico deserves a fair debate of House Bill 261 and let the chips fall where they may.
