Arizona Governor Jan Brewer Vetoes Bill Requiring Proof Of Citizenship For Presidential Candidates – With Video

PHOENIX (AP) – Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has vetoed a bill to require President Barack Obama and other presidential candidates to prove their U.S. citizenship before their names can appear on the state’s ballot.

The bill vetoed by Brewer on Monday would have made Arizona the first state to pass such a requirement.

Hawaii officials have certified Obama was born in that state, but so-called “birthers” have demanded more proof.

      To Axel – Something was not right with Gov Brewer tonight. I agree with Blade Runner below who suggests that she has so much heat on her now that she doesn’t want AZ to be the first state to deal with the birth cert issue.

      The rest of your comments had me ROFL – my poor keyboard. I’m not ready to throw her under the bus though for this one veto.

    Before everyone jumps all over her, she says this bill would put too much power in the hands of the Secretary of State.

    Think how easy it would be to bribe or pressure the SoS to say you were eligible. I’d have to look at the bill and what the language says before judging. If the bill is badly written or too burdensome, then it can be revised.

      Just caught Gov Brewer on Greta’s Fox show. She was pissed off and very defensive. Her demeanor was strange to me. Greta said AZ legislature has enough votes to override Brewer’s vote.

      She sounded drunk to me, slurring her words. The bill was written very slopily? What kind of word is slopily? LOL! My guess is she is not having a good day and is taking heat every which way. Sucks to be her right now.

      Her image always reminds me of a burned out dish (hot woman) turned hag from the 60′s sitting in her silk bathrobe, cigarette in one hand and a drink in the other, the room gray and shadowed dappled light coming in the window. Perhaps once a movie star gone bad kind of thing or her man left her for another lover. Ok, getting off track here. :roll:

    Someone posted part of the bill online. It reads that if the candidate doesn’t have a long form birth certif then you can submit other documents/proof, including an affidavit.

    That’s kind of where we are now isn’t it?

    Someone else commented that the bill also says only one parent has to a US citizen. I think we all should look at the bill’s language. Not sure what it accomplishes here.

      Oh, bullshit! In case none of you are aware, Arizona is in Obama’s crosshairs–he’s tagged Arizona and its government as a bunch of rogues. I can’t imagine the kind of pressure the governor is dealing with, what with the border situation and all. I think now that Trump has ramped up the “birther” issue, that Brewer just doesn’t want to throw any more logs on the fire and get embroiled in another political fight with that asshole in DC. There’s only so much of that cretin’s bullshit that a decent person can take.

    I applaud the Governor for taking the correct step in protecting the Constitution rather than twisting it like all you other morons do. I can’t understand why you all are so hateful. Did your mother bring you up like that? I doubt it. In fact if she knew how you talk about the President of the United States, it would probably sicken her like it sickens me.
