Leon Panetta Could Replace Robert Gates As US Defense Secretary

April 27th, 2011 (2) Posted By Angelia Phillips.

President Barack Obama plans this week to name CIA director Leon Panetta as defense secretary to replace Robert Gates, and General David Petraeus, now running the war in Afghanistan, would take the CIA chief’s job, administration sources say.

The officials all spoke on condition of anonymity because the changes are not final.

The changes would probably take effect this summer. Gates has already said he will leave his post this year.

The officials say Obama is expected to also announce that Lieutenant General John Allen would replace Petraeus as Afghanistan commander, and that diplomat Ryan Crocker will be the next US ambassador in Afghanistan.

The changes are expected to be announced on Thursday at the White House.

Is there anything Panetta has ever run that he hasn’t screwed up?

  • Lock and Load

Was panetta ever in the military :?: He certainly doesn’t seem to have a clue in the responsibilities he has now – is he going to be given the military to screw up too  As usual, obambi has the whole thing backwards… if anything, Petraeus should have sec def, and some other QUALIFIED, NON-POLITICAL HACK be given the CIA chief. This is a scheme to get Petraeus out of the way so that the military can be given more politically motivated objectives and be more under the sway of obambi directly – Petraeus is an obstruction to his agenda and is being removed   :???:
