Meghan McCain Responds To Glenn Beck: “Shut Up About My Body” – With Videos

May 12, 2011 33 Comments ›› Pat Dollard

The Daily Beast:

After Meghan McCain wore a revealing dress in a skin cancer PSA, Glenn Beck launched a vicious tirade about her body—suggesting she wear a burqa and saying the idea of her naked made him want to vomit. In an open letter to Beck, McCain asks if this is the legacy he wants to leave his daughters.

Dear Mr. Beck,

I am writing to thank you for helping me spread the word about a serious condition.

A few months ago, I filmed a PSA for skin cancer awareness where I posed in a strapless Juicy dress to appear “naked,” as a metaphor for the dangers of going out in the sun without sunscreen. I thought that pretending to be naked (even if I only disrobed to my collar bone) would hopefully call attention to skin cancer, a disease that both my parents have suffered from.

Dear Mr.

I don’t know if you know this, Mr. Beck, but that scar on the side of my father’s face is from a melanoma he had removed when I was in middle school. Did you know melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer? Did you also know that between 40 and 50 percent of Americans who live to be 65 will have either basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma skin cancer? And that there are more than 2 million cases of skin cancer discovered in the United States every year? It’s pretty scary, Glenn, and something everyone in America should be made aware of.

But the thing is, Glenn, I wasn’t really naked and I know the idea of me being naked caused you to vomit on your radio show for 10 minutes. You suggested I should wear a burqa, since you believe that’s probably the only clothing that could possibly fit me. By the way, you should really see a doctor because it isn’t normal to vomit for that long.

While you’re at the doctor’s office, why not get checked for moles on your skin to make sure you don’t have any signs of skin cancer? Skincancer.org suggests, “Throughout the year, you should examine your skin head to toe once a month, looking for any suspicious lesions. Self-exams can help you identify potential skin cancers early, when they can almost always be completely cured.”

While we’re on the subject of you vomiting on air, maybe we should have a little talk. Clearly you have a problem with me, and possibly women in general, but the truth is, it’s 2011 and I heard your show on Fox was canceled. Isn’t that an indication that the era of the shock jock pundit is over? Don’t you think that’s a sign you should be pulling it back a little? I mean, if you’re too conservative and outrageous for Fox, that should tell you something. There really is no need to make something like my participation in a skin cancer PSA into a sexist rant about my weight and physical appearance, because I’m going to let you in on a little secret, Glenn: you are the only one who looks bad in this scenario, and at the end of the day you have helped me generate publicity for my skin cancer PSA, a cause that I feel quite passionate about.

As a person known for his hot body, you must find it easy to judge the weight fluctuations of others, especially young women.

As a person known for his hot body, you must find it easy to judge the weight fluctuations of others, especially young women.

You’re a full-grown man with teenage daughters who are probably dealing with the sexist, body-obsessed media environment that is difficult for all women. Is this really the legacy you want to be leaving for yourself?

As a person who is known for his hot body, you must find it easy to judge the weight fluctuations of others, especially young women. If any of your daughters are ever faced with some kind of criticism of their physical appearance or weight, they should call me, because women’s body image is another issue I feel passionate about, and have become accustomed to dealing with and speaking with young women about on my college tours.

So, thanks for spreading the word, Glenn. And next time, instead of jumping straight to the “Meghan McCain fat jokes” maybe try out some new material? Because the fat joke thing, it’s been done so many times, I know a creative intellect such as yourself can do better than that.

Love,

Meghan

@ “Shut up about my body”.

But Meghan, there is just so much of it.

  • tlk

Maybe Glenn has a fear of big tits.

Not sure why Glenn said this but clearly he isn’t going to win any ‘most handsome guy of the year’ awards.

  • http://patdollard.com Gary

I am sure that Meagan & her father share on habit in common……

Sen McCain looks like his rides a dildo 24-7. And now talks like it too, especially about water-boarding.

John McCain is definitely a woman.

  • tlk

The worst part about all of this is that she took the time to write the letter.

  • derised1

Oh, that was so wrong but funny about Sen McCain.

I think Glenn shouldn’t be making fun of Meggie’s or anyone’s body…glass houses and stones….

I agree w/ Meggie on this one.

  • ji

What she says makes me vomit

  • remmy

The McCain name is her claim to fame. That’s it. She’s been all over the place since dad was nominated and lost big time.

  • wwtd

Another unworthy attention whore. Damn VietCong curse.

  • amy

A lot worse has been said about Palin, by the same people who are “outraged” by what Beck said.

  • amy

She, just like her father before her, is being used by liberals. And she laps up their attention like a kitten does milk. They are probably saying worse things about her behind closed doors.

  • Jim up north

Meghan M …. Just another useful idiot for the liberal asshole team!! I would’nt pay her any attention, That’s all she’s after.

  • derised1

I get outraged by anyone, including Beck, who bashes the Palins. He had the nerve to call Sarah “damaged goods” the other day. Lost me as a regular viewer/listener then and there.

You don’t talk that way about people who have helped you (Sarah has done many things for Beck). Beck often shoots his mouth off without thinking then has to apologize. His skit re: Meg McCain’s body was lame and cruel IMO.

  • Koozebane

Meg, dear….if you don’t want people talking about your body, perhaps you should stop attempting to use it as some sort of promotional vehicle.

  • hank

Whats up with the Home Girl hoop Ear rings and the stupid Cap ? White guilt-Ghetto cool perhaps ? Maybe she’s better off with no clothes

  • ATTILA

Naked she would be a maggot gagger and boner killer.A 3 bagger for sure.

  • Charlie from New Jersey

I don’t see Glen flaunting his naked body infront of our faces as if he was the hottest thing on the planet! Who the Hell is Meghan McCain anyway?

  • YERMOM

talking about Megan’s body will be off limits when she stops talking about it.

If you put it out there then expect to have it talked about.

  • Tommy_G

When all is said and done Glen Beck is a classless, talentless bore. On the other hand, I don’t see this as a PSA. It looks more like government sanctioned commercial for sunscreen. There is a big problem with sunscreen. There are no long term studies about the effects of the chemicals in them being absorbed through the skin. Who knows what ills will befall people who use this. So they have to use sex and the government to sell their product. If they were paying the models, I bet they could have gotten some prettier ones.

  • Tom in CO

Not sure why there even needs to be outrage regarding someone raising awareness for something by going near-naked. Peta does it all the time.

  • What?

I get, like, grossed out too when thinking about the way Mehgan, like, talks — and the fact that she is, like, naked, is, like, totally icky!

  • Sgsaur

    It’s self-loathing on Beck’s part, as he’s a big boob himself.

  • Phil Byler

In my view, Gary and derised1, Gary is not funny about John McCain. Have either of you flown a jet aircraft off a carrier at sea and flown over enemy territory to perform bombing missions while contending with one of the toughest anti-aircraft defense in military history? Election year 2008 — with the financial crisis, an absurd press bias for Obama, an Obama 7 to 1 money advantage and the lingering anti-Bush venom — was a Democrat year. Obama would have beaten Jesus in 2008. John McCain, with terrific credentials to be Commander in Chief, beat Obama on substance in the debates and towered over Obama at the Saddleback Forum, but the voting public in 2008 did not care.

But derised1 is right about Glenn Beck not making fun of Meghan McCain’s body or anyone else’s. I like a lot of what Glenn Beck has done and said and think soem of what Meghan McCain has said is not wise. But Glenn Beck’s vomit bit about Meghan McCain was really very, very dumb and taseteless.

  • Phil Byler

What is wrong with Meghan McCain’s letter? The facts she cites about skin cancer are true, and the point of the ad was to raise public awareness about the problems of skin cancer. If you ever have skin cancer, you will look back differently on the ad.

  • Westie

BTW, have you noticed that the nanny gov has a GD PSA every 10 minutes and then there is the black widow, Michelle going all the time with her anti-fat BS….all done with the taxpayers money.
I find all 3 McCains vomit inducing!

  • Ed

Neither Satan nor the son of Satan (Obama) can ever beat Jesus. Jesus is always in control.

On the 08 election, think how Meghan would be if Dad was POTUS. That alone makes me glad McCain didn’t win. We needed Obama to wake us up. Next year will let us know where we stand, either dumb or dumber!

On Glenn Beck, he is a performer and a lot of his acts have been pretty sad. I remember his silly radio shows here in Tampa. A skit like the vomiting is just part of the program.

Get over it Meghan and please never do a Playboy center fold.

  • Pull

I laughed my ass off when I heard Glenn on the radio. Some of you people are to progressive.

  • Phil Byler

Ed, I was using an expression to indicate that 2008 was a Democrat year. The people did need to be waken up. I was calling Obama a radical socialist in 2008. I was also watching the polls consistently show Obama way ahead of all GOP contenders except for McCain.

  • displaced chedhead

Meghan McCain has made a name and a living off her father and family. While her brothers serve valiantly and heroically, to earn there own name, she shamelessly serves as “Just another useful idiot for the liberal asshole team”!! “Jim up north”

You people that are offended, derised1, Phil Byler, and Tommy_G (who I believe is a troll), need to get a sense of humor. Mayhaps you could ask the Mighty Oz for this. It was a funny gag on talk radio (literally “gag”) get over yourselves.
The attempt by Meg to gain noteriety by calling out Glen, and the subsequent ignoring of said attempts by Glen makes it all the more High-Larious.

  • derised1

Phil Byler – I completely appreciate John McCain’s service and sacrifices for our nation. It always breaks me up to read how he was tortured. I consider him to be an American hero when it comes to the Vietnam War. I was bawling during the 2008 GOP convention when people talked about the horrors that McCain went through.

I also have a warped sense of humor and can laugh at crude jokes. Gary was un-PC but funny to me. It was just silly humor. Sometimes you just gotta laugh with all the crap going on around us. Laughter keeps us sane even when it is “wrong.”

  • derised1

I’m over it. Glenn can do what he wants. To me it was just a lame comedy skit where Glenn just kept repeating the same crap and it went on too long like a bad SNL skit. I couldn’t listen to the whole thing because it got boring.

I love Glenn when he’s funny but this one skit just went wrong in my opinion.

As a woman, I don’t think it’s cool to rip on some woman’s appearance or body type. What if it was someone you knew – a friend, daughter, sister?

Women have enough body issues without these memes being shoved down our throats all the time. Maybe Meg is as happy with her bod as Beck is with his.
