    I appreciate McCain’s service for this country but it is way past time for him to be put out to pasture.

    Please just go away with your dignity intact McCain.

    No, McCain is doing a service and Rush is doing a disservice to the Republican Party. McCain is calling for Republicans to adhere to Reaganite national security conservatism, which was missing from the GOP Presidential debate in New Hampshire. That is certainly not, as Rush put it, a matter of McCain treating other Republicans as a fire hydrant. To the contrary, McCain is trying to maintain the Reaganite coalition that includes national security conservatives. At the GOP Presidential debate in New Hampshire, Ron Paul’s isolationism and Romney’s “we should get out of Afghanistan as soon as possible” was standard fare.

    Back in 2007, McCain seemed out of step by calling for support of GW Bush’s surge strategy in Iraq, which McCain had advocated before Bush adopted it. Bush and McCain were right.
