Las Vegas Cop Beats Man For Videotaping Him – With Video

July 30th, 2011 (11) Posted By Pat Dollard.

Excerpted from the Las Vegas Review-Journal:

On the night of March 20, Crooks, 36, was in his driveway, near East Desert Inn Road and South Maryland Parkway, videotaping police as they investigated a burglary report across the street. Crooks said that when he refused to stop filming, Colling arrested and beat him, with much of the altercation recorded by the camera.

The video went viral on the Internet, and local activists and national “cop watch” blogs scrutiznized Colling’s actions.

Local American Civil Liberties Union lawyer Allen Lichtenstein reviewed the video and found clear policy violations.

That’s way hinky, he said he didn’t live there, so the officer must assume the negative and then after video guy is taken down he says he does live there…WTF?

Did he just lose his job and he’s looking to score big with a lawsuit against LVPD or what ?

On the flip side I do know a couple of street cops and they would have verified a couple more times whether or not the guy lived there.

And as far as what the ACLU hippies found, the first two sentences out of video guy’s mouth negates their findings.

Would this have happened when “W” was POTUS?

    Not likely.

My wife watched that clip and said “I wouldn`t have any other choice than to shoot that officer,if he was doing that to you in our driveway..we all need to take a minute and think- because they wear a uniform..does not allow them to break the law be ready to protect your loved ones should that awful situation arise in your driveway

This isn’t a Fascist state, we have a right to film public events.

If you look up that Adam Kokesh douche on youtube, you will find they do the same thing they appear to go around ‘baiting’ law enforcement deliberately.

It would appear some ‘cops’ are more easily baited than others. The police officer put himself into a position where, to maintain authority, he painted himself into a corner. Is it legal or illegal to film police in a public place while not impeding their work? Or will this be decided in the court or court of public opinion? Douche or not, the question needs to be answered: did the police officer have the right to approach this person? A police officer works under the rule that, unlike me or you, if he gives an order it is assumed to be legal. He or she can’t just go around searching people and telling me people what to do unless they have the legal authority to do so.
Do you want this, Alex, decided at gunpoint? What controls a police officer if not the law? If he was impeding an investigation then he should be arrested for interfering with an investigation, not for filming one.

      So, Alex, what about this?

Cameraman Arrested by Suffolk County Police

Seems the police are suddenly very interested in who is filming them…intensely interested…

Vegas cops also shoot citizens with CCL. They are out of control.
