Rest In Peace…

Excerpt from Military.com:

The operators from SEAL Team Six were flown by a crew of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. That’s according to one current and one former U.S. official. Both spoke on condition of anonymity because families are still being notified of the loss of their loved ones.

One source says the team was thought to include 22 SEALs, three Air Force air controllers, seven Afghan Army troops, a dog and his handler, and a civilian interpreter, plus the helicopter crew.

NY Times:

Insurgents shot down a NATO Chinook helicopter during an overnight operation in eastern Afghanistan, killing at least 37 people on board, a coalition military official said on Saturday. It was believed to be the deadliest helicopter crash in the nearly decade-long war, punctuating a surge of violence across the country even as American and NATO forces begin a modest drawdown of troops.

Afghan military officials put the death toll at 38, including 31 Americans and 7 Afghan commandos. President Hamid Karzai’s office, in a statement, described the American casualties as members of the Special Operations forces. The coalition official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss it, confirmed that most of the dead were NATO forces, but could not immediately identify their nationalities or the units to which they belonged.

“The president of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has expressed his condolences to the U.S. President Barack Obama and to the families of the victims,” Mr. Karzai’s office said in the statement.

The helicopter was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade in the Tangi Valley of the Wardak Province just west of Kabul, the coalition official said. The Taliban claimed credit for the attack.

If confirmed, Saturday’s crash would be the deadliest day for American forces since the war began. A NATO spokesman, Capt. Justin Brockhoff of the United States Air Force, confirmed the crash but could provide no further information, including what caused the crash or whether there were casualties.

There were conflicting accounts about when the helicopter went down. A spokesman for the Taliban, Zabiullah Mujahid, said insurgents shot down the helicopter around 11 p.m. Friday as it was starting an operation on a house where the militants were gathering in the Tangi Joyee region of the district of Saidabad in the eastern part of the province. Eight militants were killed in the fight, which continued after the helicopter fell, Mr. Mujahid said.

“The fresh reports from the site tells us that there are still Americans doing search operations for the bodies and pieces of the helicopter are on the ground,” he said.

Although the nationality of the NATO soldiers killed was not confirmed, Americans were known to be carrying out most of the operations in the area.

Gen. Abdul Qayum Baqizoy, police chief of Wardak, said the operation began around 1 a.m. Saturday as NATO and Afghan forces attacked a Taliban compound in Jaw-e-mekh Zareen village in the Tangi Valley. The firefight lasted at least two hours, the general said.

“It was at the end of the operation that one of the NATO helicopters crashed,” he said. “We don’t know yet the cause of the crash, and we don’t know how many NATO soldiers were on board.”

The Tangi Valley runs along the border of Wardak and the neighboring province of Logar. Taliban activity has been heavy in both provinces, which border the capital of Kabul.

Prior to Saturday, the biggest single-day loss of life for the American military in Afghanistan came on June 28, 2005 during Operation Red Wing in Kunar Province, when a Chinook helicopter carrying Special Operations troops was shot down in eastern Kunar Province as it tried to provide reinforcements to forces trapped in heavy fighting. Sixteen Special Operations troops, most of them Navy Seals, were killed in the crash. Three more Seals were killed in fighting on the ground.

I would not be surprised if we find out that all operators killed in this crash were the same ones involved in the Osama Bin Laden raid.

I’m usually not prone to conspiracies but I smell something here.

I agree…these are not only the finest troops in the world, they also are generally the best protected, the best armed, and the best trained…most often they do not move unless their every movement is preplanned and scripted…they may die during a mission…but seldom in transport, becuase they operate in such classified secrecy no one knows where they are…who sold them out?  Who released their planned travel route?  Who identified their chopper to the enemy?  Why were so many of them together on the same craft?  Where had they been?  Where were they going?  Some answers are needed….

Who tipped off the Taliban that the SEALS 6 Teams was onboard? Why were they killed and what did they know? A military helicopter was shot down in eastern Afghanistan, killing 31 U.S. special operation troops, most of them from the elite Navy SEALs unit that killed al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.

According to one witness, there several choppers, but only the one with our team 6 was targeted for destruction. Coincidence-hell no!
This needs to get more attention, and the root of this murder of our finest needs to be exposed. They deserve at least that!
Remeber, we have the most ani-american, anti-military a-hole in the white house. He also has the muslim brotherhood in his admin-so don’t tell me the taliban got lucky, rather it was a set-up, and revenge!

But they have died in vain…that is the heartbreak of it all…our best and bravest have been squandered in Iraq and Afghanistan…and for what? What has been accomplished?  Democracy?…please…  Nation building?…you must be joking… The draining of our men, treasure and morale? For what? so the greater jihad in western Europe and the USA can proceed unabated?
To quote the great Hugh Fiztgerald, “The war in Afghanistan is based on a notion that because Al Qaeda was located there when the attacks of 9/11/2001 took place, that somehow Afghanistan retains pride of place, that without it Al Qaeda cannot exist, that it is the main refuge of “violent extremists” who apparently “just happen” to be Muslim.
The other day I heard Andrew Bacevich make a telling remark. He noted that this fixation on Afghanistan was akin to Americans thinking that in order to prevent assassination attempts on American presidents, that the School Book Depository in Dallas would till the end of time have to be massively guarded. It makes no sense. Where, after all, have the terrorists been who attacked the London Underground and busses, or the metro station at Atocha in Madrid, or who have been responsible for thousands of terrorist attacks (see Fort Hood, just a few weeks ago) all over the Western world? It’s absurd that Afghanistan should be made so much of. Let it slip back into the tribal society it was, where people enjoy making war on one another. If the Three-Cups-of-Tea Mortensen, if Sarah Chayes and her projects for women, can somehow continue, let them, but don’t make the mistake of holding onto Afghanistan at the cost of hundreds of billions of dollars, to make sure that Mortensen and Chayes and others feel good about “giving hope” to the people of Afghanistan. The people of Afghanistan are held back by Islam. If one were sincerely interested in their welfare, one would be cruel only to be kind, and realize that the best way to decrease the fatal hold of Islam on the minds of men is to allow things to degenerate, to longer try to improve things, no longer to try to prevent internecine warfare, no longer to try to rescue this or that Muslim society from the violence and aggression that are natural to peoples raised on the texts and tenets of Islam (some more so, and some less).  We cannot bring western ideals of democracy to any islamic state..IT IS IMPOSSIBLE.

I feel your sorrow and anger. Your family is not the only one torn with pain these last 10 years. It is that pain from 2003 that pushed me to devour eveything I could on Islam and jihad. To educate myself, my family and friends as much as possible on the threat to the western world. The pain is great, but denying the truth serves no one. Our western governments and militaries have been infiltrated with islamists and their apologists..they are squandering our men, women and treasure, and for what?                   More H.F. -  ”In Afghanistan, the theme is one of “reconstruction,” which is certainly an odd word to use about one of the poorest, least accessible, most remote, and least developed countries on earth, a place where whatever is spent is likely to be diverted into the pockets of the endlessly corrupt. For in Afghanistan there is hardly any understanding of the concept of citizenship, of good government, of true patriotism. In Muslim countries, political power has always been the way to seize wealth as well, and then to distribute it to one’s family, one’s tribe, fellow members of one’s village or city or sect.
The doctrines of Islam have not changed in 1350 years. While there are certainly differences of sect (Sunni, Shi’a, Ibadi) and differences of approach to God (the Sufis, for example) and differences in emphasis, it cannot be said that the essential irreducible doctrines of Islam vary, even if Muslims themselves may vary in the degree to which they fully accept, or fully apply in their own lives, the doctrines that are inculcated.
The doctrine of Jihad did not disappear between the time Europe entered the Middle East in 1798, with Napoleon’s entry into Egypt, and the latter half of the twentieth century. And it did not suddenly reappear in the last few decades. Rather, it was always present, but in a period of perceived Muslim weakness and Western strength, was not, in the West, acted upon. All that has changed.
Why are we still in Iraq and Afghanistan? What is the outcome desired? That the Taliban will cease to exist? That Iraq will remain a”purple thumbed” pseudo-democracy? That the Taliban will allow itself to make peace with the government? That the government of Afghanistan will be, could ever be, a true friend of the Infidel Americans, even though every Muslim in Afghanistan learns that the permanent enemy of Muslims are Infidels, and that no matter how seemingly generous those Infidels may be, it is only to promote their own, Infidel, and therefore unacceptable, interests? And if we supply Afghans with electricity grids so that every village can now be hooked up to the outside world, doesn’t that mean that every village will now be able to receive Islamic propaganda, which is far more likely to be listened to and accepted than anything else on offer, because the audience already consists of people who think of themselves as Muslims and, as Muslims, are ready to do whatever they find out that Muslims are expected or required to do? How many Muslims have you heard of who, ignorant of much of Islam, upon finding out more about it, and what it says about the treatment of non-Muslims, recoiled in horror and decided to drop Islam? There are remarkable exceptions, people who did jettison Islam. But how many? Can policies be constructed on the hope that the numbers of the remarkable exceptions will magically increase? Does that make sense? Is that wise?

My sympathy to the fallen, and their families.
I have stated over and over again that this administration is the specific domestic enemy that the constitution is supposed to protect us against.  Our military leadership, and all who serve are sworn to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign AND domestic.  Now, the administration is killing, directly and/or by proxy, our military personnel.  This will continue until the illegal usurper and all his Marxist cadre are removed from government and society.  Now is the time for the LEGAL, FORCEFUL, removal from office under ARMS, of Obama and his criminal partners.  If it is not done, our Nation will be completely destroyed.  The military MUST act now or be killed themselves.

    • Hawkerdriver

I agree 1000%..BUT,there must take place somehow a coup within the Military first to remove the general officers who cow to or outright support obama’s continuing subversion.Only then can the People rise up successfully. The TREASON commited by this president when he revealed details of a classified military operation right after the elimination of OBL should have been punnished accordingly with his removal from acting as CIC by the JCS. Nothing was said at all..

It’s all conjecture over at Veterans Today. I might have believed a shred of this tripe until the author started to bring Israel into  it – accusing Obama of being under the thumb of Netanyahu. If anyone is throwing their weight around it is Obama putting his thumb on Israel demanding they don’t build in their own country.
