Indiana College Bans National Anthem Because Of Violent Lyrics

Chicago Tribune:

A small college in northern Indiana that decided to stop playing the national anthem at sporting events will play “America the Beautiful” instead.

Goshen College’s president says “America the Beautiful” is more fitting with the Mennonite Church-affiliated school’s pacifist traditions while also honoring the country.

Leaders of the 1,000-student college decided in June to quit playing an instrumental version “The Star-Spangled Banner” after starting to do so for the first time last year.

Some students and graduates were against the song being played because its lyrics contain references to using war to defend the country.

School President Jim Brenneman says the use of “America the Beautiful” will begin with sports events this fall and that the U.S. flag will be present.

    Yeah, Mennonites can’t serve in the military, or pledge allegiance to the flag, either.  This would be consistent with their beliefs.

    What will they do when told they can  no longer practice their religion or have any kind of church services on penalty of death.     While I respect their right to believe what they choose, they seem to overlook the fact that the religious freedon they enjoy was bought with the blood of patriots.

    maybe they would like to take their college to another country since they are not proud of America? They are quick to forget the cost of freedom or maybe they take it for granted. Either way, they and all those that are against what America stands for should be deported for good, they are not true Americans and I am sick of them hiding behind freedom of speech.

    Maybe they should actually read the words and review their history. The soldiers in Fort McHenry were DEFENDING the city of Baltimore and unable to return much fire because the British were out of their range.

    America would not be beautiful, had not good men died to defend it from the likes of Hitler and the Japs in years gone by, and jihadist filth today. Pacifists are naive fools – if your beliefs are not worth fighting for, what is the point of believing them?
