Obama Hangs Painting In White House Depicting Black Girl Being Taunted By Whites During 1960s

President Barack Obama has taken a decidedly low-key approach to racial issues since he became America’s first black president two years ago. But in a hallway outside the Oval Office, he has placed a head-turning painting depicting one of the ugliest racial episodes in U.S. history.

Norman Rockwell’s “The Problem We All Live With,” installed in the White House last month, shows U.S. marshals escorting Ruby Bridges, a 6-year-old African-American girl, into a New Orleans elementary school in 1960 as court-ordered integration met with an angry and defiant response from the white community.

The thrust of the painting is not subtle. America’s vilest racial epithet appears in letters several inches high at the top of the canvas. To the left side, the letters “KKK” are plainly visible. The crowds, mostly women who gathered daily to taunt Bridges as she went to a largely empty school, are not shown in the picture. But the racist graffiti and a splattered tomato convey the hostile atmosphere.

n 2009, the Obamas also borrowed for the White House’s private spaces a couple of works with racial themes. One was Glenn Ligon’s “Black Like Me No. 2” — which features a repeating line from John Howard Griffin’s 1961 book on the experience of a white man who turned his skin black to study racism in the South: “All traces of the Griffin I had been were wiped from existence.”

    And that little girl went on to have 12 children by 14 different fathers become a great grandmother at 27 and get welfare,medicare food stamps and free vetinarian care for all her little offspring who in turn went on having children and burdening the system till America collapsed.

      She actually went on to become the mother of 4 sons, work as a travel agent for 15 years, be awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal, have a elementary school named after her and now works to stop the “disease” of racism!

    Racism will disappear when people stop dredging it up and throwing it in the faces of others, especially those who had nothing to do with it originally. And RINO’s like Jeb Bush wonder why people make personal accusations against barry the destroyer….  barry illustrates, by his actions, that he is a destroyer, and a divider who has no love for the country or founding principles that he is charged with protecting.

    He is definitely a racist.  Read his book, Dreams from my Father.  Listen to his rhetoric and realize that Eric Holder is only saying what his leader agrees with.

    You accuse him of “stirring up” something. He is the first Black President of the United States, what did you think he would put up? If it was not for Ruby and other brave people like her, I doubt seriously if our President would have been able to attend Columbia University, Harvard Law and teaching at University of Chicago would not have been possible. Every educated person of color honors the sacrifice that Ruby, her family, and those that helped to make that achievement possible. Do you know how many non Blacks helped with the civil rights movement? That picture shows what our nation is capable of when we pull together. The good and the bad. Yes it was White people outside throwing objects and insults. But it was A White woman Barbara Henry inside teaching her. It was White men, some forced and some not forced protecting her. Norman Rockwell painted her for crying out loud! Why would you not want to put that painting in the White House? Don’t worry it was only on display for the summer of 2011.It will be put back in storage or hidden away LOL.
