Cain Wins Nevada Straw Poll

Washington Times:

LAS VEGAS — The good news continued for Herman Cain Friday, as the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO won the Western Republican Leadership Conference straw poll of GOP presidential contenders, edging out former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich — and leaving Texas Gov. Rick Perry in a distant fifth place.

Mr. Cain, whose longshot campaign got a major boost by winning a major Florida straw poll last month, received nearly 31 percent of the vote and Mr. Romney pulled in nearly 29 percent of the vote. Mr. Gingrich, who has also risen in recent national polls after his campaign’s shaky start, secured more than 20 percent of the vote. Texas Rep. Ron Paul finished with about 10 percent, Mr. Perry received almost 4 percent, and Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota received just 1 percent.

The results follow Mr. Cain’s surprise victory in the so-called Presidency 5 straw poll in Orlando last month, which was seen as a big blow to Mr. Perry’s front-runner status at the time.

Since then, the former businessman and Atlanta radio talk-show host has surged in the polls, stealing a lot of the conservative and tea party support that helped Mr. Perry leapfrog to the front of the GOP presidential field shortly after he entered the race in August.

Mr. Romney, meanwhile, has consistently stayed near or at the front of the pack in national polls as Mr. Perry has faded.

The victory closed out the four-day Western Republican Leadership Conference, which featured the most intense debate of the Republican race so far here, with Mr. Romney and Mr. Perry trading rhetorical haymakers over their conservative credentials, their respective records on jobs and their stances on immigration. Reflecting his rising prominence, Mr. Cain also came under fire here from his GOP rivals for his “9-9-9” tax reform plan and for his stands on social issues such as abortion.

David Mansdoerfer, of Citizen Outreach, the poll sponsor, said the results aren’t surprising. “Herman Cain has spent a lot of time in Nevada and it shows,” he said. “You can see people reacting to his message about the economy and job creation”

He also said that Mr. Romney’s second-place finish reflects the fact that the party sees him as the one candidate who can beat President Obama in a general election.

“At this point, it looks like Romney and Cain are the two to beat in Nevada,” he said.

I really missed the “Shocked” animated icon, because thats all I can say. We are about to elect another negro based strictly off of raw emotion….really?…WHY?

I’m interested to hear your facts against Herman Cain since you really think he’s the same as Obama (and I’m not talking about skin color). And apparently, you don’t realize or don’t care that he’s got quite a bit of GOP and Tea Party people on his side right now. His past DOES NOT lead to anything of that of Obama. Not a socialist. Not a Communist. Not anti-capitalist. Not anti-freedom. Whatever….

Your turn. Let me hear what you have against him SO much that you believe that he’s another Obama.

Cain describes himself in his latest book as “American first, black second, and Conservative third” due to his recent penchant for making a statement and later recanting when he discovers it was unpopular, or saying he “Didnt understand” I’m sure the order of his loyalties are subject to change based on his audience. He is obviously enjoying riding a wave of emotion (not surprised) rooted in semantics, not reality. American’s are in an agitated emotional state right now, he is exploiting it like a televangelist, and they are lapping it up like mother’s milk. (Sound familiar?)

I’m sure it would be okay for a White candidate to say “I’m American first, White second, and Conservative third”. As soon as we live in a nation where that is permissible, I will consider a black candidate.

Nominating cain will result in 1) Massive amounts of people not voting. 2) A third party candidate enters the race and splinters the vote….result= 4 more years of obama

Oh yeah, I nearly forgot Cain’s clever hit and run race baiting of Rick Perry, but I’m sure that was just a coincident, right? Maybe you are right, maybe the only thing Cain has in common with Obama is skin color….maybe thats all he needs.

Yeah…I remember when he recently tried to use the race card on Perry and his dad when they were at the park YEARS ago. That was disappointing.

Him stating he’s “American 1st, Black 2nd and Conservative” 3rd does raise my eyebrows. Confusing too. I don’t know… But I wouldn’t hold on to too much of why he said that. I’m going to need more indications that he’ll change his policies according to the audience as time goes by until the GOP nomination.

Good point you bring up though. I hope he doesn’t swing that way of using the race card or changing because of popularity. We’ll see I guess. And it is somewhat exciting that we have a black candidate running as conservative actually.

Nevada and Florida are heavily Jewish populated states. Of course Cain is going to win those polls since he came out and declared his
love for Israel over being an American and he also is a bankers best friend, plus the rich. His 999 plan is a can of garbage to slip in a tax desguised as something good. Forget Cain. He cannot win unless they rig the vote.
