Leftist Christian Leader Jim Wallis: Occupiers “Stand With Jesus”

The new movement called Occupy Wall Street now has spread across the country, from the very seats of our political and financial power and our largest cities, to suburbs and small towns. In some communities, small groups of a few dozen have formed and in some cities thousands have gathered.

In each instance, no matter the size, people’s frustrations, hurts, and feelings of being betrayed by our nation’s politicians and economic leaders are clear. They want to be heard.

We will likely see images and hear things from Occupy Wall Street demonstrators that will offend us and some that will inspire.

The Occupy Wall Street protests make some people nervous, while others scratch their heads, and more than a few grab their sleeping bags and join in.

There is a lot of speculation as to who the “Occupiers” are and what they might accomplish. There is much I still don’t know about the movement, but undeniably it has caught the imagination of a generation — and that matters.

Here are a few things I do know about the Occupy Wall Street protesters:

When they stand with the poor, they stand with Jesus.

When they stand with the hungry, they stand with Jesus.

When they stand for those without a job or a home, they stand with Jesus.

When they are peaceful, non-violent, and love their neighbors (even the ones they don’t agree with and who don’t agree with them), they are walking as Jesus walked.

When they talk about holding banks and corporations accountable, they sound like Jesus and the biblical prophets before him who all spoke about holding the wealthy and powerful accountable.

Pray for those out on the streets.

Think of ways that you or your church can be Jesus to them.

    Reminds me of the Communists that got in the Catholic Priesthood in South America in the ’50′s and ’60′s and helped develop “Liberation Theology” to spread Communism, Che Guevara, and the rest of the murderers.  What, you fell for the lie that Black Liberation Theology developed with churches full of runaway slaves and their descendants?   That BS is revisionist and ignores the facts.  Research and learn, little brothers.  You are being played by people and teachers that feel it is okay to distort history for a greater end……..The greater end being in their mind……

    Christ would point out that government has no place in one’s relationship with God and that charity comes from within your Christian Community and God the Father,n ot the government or some schlub 1500 miles away.  These preachers that shill for government intercession reflect the lower quality of people in the ministry as the mainstreams falter due to liberalization and inclusion of New Agers and worse.  Any minister or priest that looks to the government for solutions betrays Christianity, itself.

    After allowing the MMS and the Left to destroy much of the basis for a morally grounded society, it is easy to see how people could be duped even further.

    I’d really like some chapters and verses on that one…
    Plus, I can stand for any of those things without being a filthy, brainless, marxist, anti-semite – as a Christian, one should stand for those things as a matter of course, not just when they are trying to make some ridiculous “stand” on the TV camera. I love it how the leftist “christians” always try to drag “what would Jesus do” into everything – one thing is for certain, Jesus was an advocate of personal responsibility, something these toads have long lost any notion of.
