That’s the shooting victim being given CPR in the background

(11-10) 19:11 PST OAKLAND — A man was shot and killed this evening near the Occupy Oakland encampment outside City Hall, inflaming debate over whether the month-old gathering should be allowed to remain.

A man was shot and killed this evening near the Occupy Oakland encampment outside City Hall, inflaming debate over whether the month-old gathering should be allowed to remain.

The man, whom several Occupy campers said they did not recognize, was shot outside the 12th Street BART station on Frank Ogawa Plaza at 14th Street and Broadway about 5 p.m. He was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland, where he was pronounced dead, said interim Police Chief Howard Jordan.

The crowd of protesters tried to prevent local news crews from recording the events.

CPR was administered for 15 minutes and the victim was taken to Highland Hospital.

Everyone on the ground I’ve spoken to agrees the perpetrators and victim were not associated with Occupy Oakland, but that doesn’t fit your narrative here, does it?

These gatherings are hotbeds of anarchy and violence. Even if this incident is not directly related to the “protest” – which it very well may be – it created an environment ripe for it to happen. This “narrative” just happens to be reality.

You obviously know little about Oakland. Its a city in the east San Fran bay with severe problems of poverty and gang violence. The incidents of violence in downtown Oakland has dropped dramatically since the encampment began 1 month ago.

First, I seriously doubt that the camp had any negative impact on violent crime downtown unless you count the increased police presence and media attention. In fact, people have been leaving the camp in the Plaza because things have grown increasingly violent there. If you’re on the ground you know this is true.

This incident occurred during the protest which was completely out of control. The point is that this kind of atmosphere is a breeding ground for all kinds of shit that may or may not have anything to do with politics and is going to attract bad actors in Oakland just as it has at all the rest of the occupied locations. And if you’re from Oakland you know there’s a thin line between thugs and politics there anyway. Has been for a long time.

His organization, occupy downtown oakland’s people threw rocks at the oakland police. You people were the scum that were throwing rocks at downtown business and smashing windows.
