A woman has spoken of her terrifying ordeal after she survived being raped, strangled and doused in bleach by a killer who stored a teenager’s body in a freezer.
At the 4th of July fireworks celebration in downtown Fort Collins, Colorado, Lydia Tillman, 30, met Travis Forbes who unknown to her had just months earlier killed 19-year-old Kenia Monge and hidden her body in a freezer.
At the apartment Forbes launched his brutal attack, sexually assaulting Lydia, beating her head and shattering her jaw, before leaving her for dead.
To cover his crime, police say Forbes, 31, then poured bleach on her body and throughout her apartment before starting a fire.
Despite her physical injuries, Lydia found the strength to survive by leaping out of her second-story window and running into an ambulance that had just arrived.
When the paramedics asked whether she knew her attacker, she repeatedly told them ‘No, no, no’ before suffering a stroke that left her in a coma for over five weeks.
As a result of the stroke and nerve damage caused by the vicious beating, Lydia stll has difficulty with her speech.
Yet she told ABC News with great pride and effort; ‘I can talk.’
‘I’m tough,’ added Lydia, an acclaimed former sommelier who’s full ordeal will be revealed in ‘Caught in the Act’ a special ’20/20′ programme on Friday.
