Congressman Keith Ellison To Join #OccupyDC Hunger Fast

Dec 17, 2011 19 Comments ›› Angelia

WAPost:

A week after three Occupy DC protesters began a hunger strike for District of Columbia voting rights in Congress, a new striker has joined their ranks, at least for a while: Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.).

Ellison tweeted Friday morning: “@Occupy_DC, started my 24-hour solidarity fast last night. May the D.C. vote and budgetary independence prevail!”

The hunger strikers tried to meet with various lawmakers on Capitol Hill this week to share their “declaration” of support. Ellison has pledged to read the declaration on the floor of the House of Representatives to enter it into the congressional record.

Ellison is a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party and co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. He is the first Muslim to serve in the House, and first African American elected to the House from Minnesota.

The strikers have not been as successful with other lawmakers, however. House Speaker John Boehner (R.-Ohio) would not emerge from his office to read the declaration, even after protesters staged a sit-in out front for hours.

The three original hunger strikers were Adrian Parsons, a performance artist with a history of participation in protests; Kelly Mears, a Web developer who is part of Occupy D.C.’s “tech ops” team; and Sam Jewler, a writer/editor for The Occupied Washington Times, the Post’s Katie Rogers reports.

The hunger strikers’ declaration calls for full voting rights for District residents and legislative and budget autonomy.

The District currently has only a nonvoting delegate to the House.

Unfortunately this muslim moron will NOT pull a Bobby Sands who actually hunger-striked himself to death in May of 1981.

Idiots like Ellison like to pull the hunger-strike card for about 5 hours, and then when they’re faced with KFC or a Jello Pudding pop their “strong” resolve vanishes.

Bonehead. Take your so-called hunger-strike seriously and die from it. Do us all a favor, and make our Christmas a little merrier.

I don’t know as anyone gives a shit about DC voting rights. I mean who is against it? The last I knew if DC was granted the right to vote they had to give the people constitutional rights. That is where the fight is they don’t want the peasants to have a gun. Even though the high court said they have the right they have made it so difficult with rules and regs I still don’t think anyone is legally packin.

If DC gets voting rights, obama and his she-thing won’t have to leave the WH to vote, how nice..What? Illegals can’t vote? ..oh yes they can! See: ACORN

It is inconsistent with his oath of office to uphold the Constitution of the United States.

I’ll send your career a “get well soon” card… or… no I won’t.  I’ll send a “I’m not so sorry about your loss” card instead.

He just committed career suicide.  He’s done.

Just wondering.  What is the career suicide involved with getting votes for DC?
