Planned Parenthood Tops $1 Billion In Assets

The nation’s largest abortion provider topped $1 billion in total net assets for the first time in 2009-2010, according to Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report.
The report, released Friday, is sure to rekindle Republican lawmakers’ efforts to defund the organization in 2012. Five of the Republican presidential candidates have also signed a pledge to defund Planned Parenthood.
Almost half of the group’s annual revenue — 46 percent — came from taxpayers in the form of grants, contracts and Medicaid payments, according to an analysis by the anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List.
Planned Parenthood says it does not receive any federal funding for abortions, only for contraception, prevention and other medical services for low-income women.
“With over a billion in net assets and a business model centered on abortion and government subsidies,” SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement, “it is time for Planned Parenthood to end its reliance on taxpayer dollars.”
