LIVE FLORIDA ELECTION RESULTS, CONSTANTLY UPDATED: Romney Wins In Landslide

Jan 31, 2012 42 Comments ›› Pat Dollard

Fox News:

Mitt Romney defeated Newt Gingrich in the Florida Republican presidential primary Tuesday night, Fox News projects, surging from a second-place finish in South Carolina to sweep the winner-take-all contest and reassert his frontrunner status.

The victory, in the biggest GOP contest to date, is likely to give the former Massachusetts governor a burst of momentum as he, Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul head west to battle in what has become an increasingly negative race.

At his victory speech in Tampa, the site of the Republican National Convention, Romney glided over his opponents and focused his remarks almost exclusively on President Obama.

“I stand ready to lead this party and to lead our nation,” Romney said. “My leadership will end the Obama era and begin a new era of American prosperity.”

But the former House speaker is vowing a drawn-out battle for delegates as the Republican race turns next to Nevada, and then a batch of primaries in western and Midwestern states.

With 74 percent of precincts reporting, Romney is leading with 47 percent. Gingrich has 32 percent, followed by Rick Santorum with 13 percent and Ron Paul with 7 percent. Fox News projects Gingrich will finish second, followed by Santorum in third and Paul in last place.

Romney is projected to win all 50 of Florida’s convention delegates.

UPDATED – UPDATED – With 50% of districts reporting: Romney 47%, Gingrich 31%, Santorum 14% and “Crazy Uncle” Paul at 7%. DEVELOPING..

*Updated* Foxnews.com:

Mitt Romney has won the Florida Republican presidential primary, Fox News projects.

The victory, in the GOP contest’s biggest state to date, is likely to give the former Massachusetts governor a burst of momentum as he and Newt Gingrich battle for the lead in what has become an increasingly negative race.

With 51 percent of precincts reporting, Romney is leading with 48 percent. Gingrich has 31 percent, followed by Rick Santorum with 13 percent and Ron Paul with 7 percent.

Romney is expected to win all 50 of Florida’s convention delegates.
Fox News also projects that Gingrich will finish second, followed by Rick Santorum in third and Ron Paul in last place.

The results mark a serious setback for the former House speaker, who trounced Romney just 10 days ago in South Carolina and was leading Romney in Florida polls as recently as last week.

With his Florida win, Romney is the only Republican candidate to have won two primaries. In a historical anomaly, the first three contests went to three different winners.

But the former House speaker is vowing a drawn-out battle for delegates as the Republican race heads next to Nevada, and then a batch of primaries in western and Midwestern states.

Asked Tuesday how close the race was to being over, Gingrich said, “I would probably say six months. I would say June or July, unless Romney drops out.”

Gingrich has held a narrow lead in most recent national polls.
But Romney began to edge him out in Florida over the past week, despite Gingrich’s come-from-behind victory in South Carolina on Jan. 21.

Gingrich, after dominating the debates in the run up to South Carolina, was more subdued on stage ahead of Florida — while Romney aggressively challenged Gingrich’s attacks on his personal wealth and his immigration position. Both campaigns, and the groups that support them, were on air with scorching attack ads in the Sunshine State.
Florida’s primary is the most valuable so far in pure numbers.

In a positive sign for Gingrich, exit polls showed evangelical voters trending for the former House speaker. The exit polls showed Gingrich with 40 percent among that group, and Romney with 36 percent.

But the margin was wider for Romney among seniors and Hispanics. Half of the seniors polled were supporting Romney, while 35 percent backed Gingrich. Santorum and Paul polled in single digits among seniors.
Romney also led Gingrich 56-29 percent among Hispanic voters, the largest minority in the state, exit polling showed.

Voters overwhelmingly went for Romney among those who said winning in November is the most important quality in a Republican nominee. But for voters who valued “true conservative” credentials as their top quality, Gingrich led with 46 percent, followed by Santorum at 26 percent and Paul at 16 percent. Among those voters, Romney was last with 11 percent.

Now to further hammer nails into the coffin lid of the Constitution comes Mitt Romney.

  • hammer666

At some point the Constitution will have to be defended and protected by somebody…. anybody. But in the mean time, I rather have this bitch-boy Mitt that the Communist living in The White House. But as far as our Constitution, aren’t our Armed Forces at some point, need to make some sort of statement about their core mission to Congress? At some point I guess. Obama has been pissing and crapping on it for over 3 years and somehow, he is just as happy as he can be. Amazing. I actually saw a person (OVOMIT) trample our Constitution in front of ALL, including our Chiefs-Of-Staff. Oh well, up to the people again for that “Hope and Change”……The nation misses 1776. Our founding fathers would have been puzzled, waiting for the Continental Army to do something about the current tyranny…..

    • Phil Byler

You will quickly get sick of Romney and will have worse names for him than bitch-boy.

  • Vladdy

Pro-romney voters have no idea how corrupt he and his people are. Look into Steve Schmidt, for instance. He worked on the 2008 romney campaign and them moved to mccain when deals were made (let the old man take the fall, mitt, then you can clean up the mess in 2012). As soon as he got there, he started ‘leaking” anti-Palin info — he was the MSM’s favorite source, writing probably the most savage of the early anti-Palin pieces in Vanity Fair right after obama won. Trace all the mysogynistic “she’s a diva” stories back to this guy, who started working four years ago to make sure he took Palin out as a threat to mitt. his crew is disgusting, and the fish rots from the top.

As for me, just glancing at that fake smile and plastic chin (plastic smile and fake chin?) give me the creeps nearly as bad as I get from looking at obama with his nose in the air. Similarly, the voices of the two equally scream “used car salesman” to me. Shudder.  Not sure if I can hold my nose long enough to put in a vote for mittens, should he be the only alternative to the marxist-in-chief.

Schmidt screwed up the McCain campaign and was responsible for back stabbing Sarah Palin.  Schmidt really is no good.  Figures he would link up with the Romney campaign.  He will screw it up against Obama.

Gingrich is a big, fat, liar whose negativity will boost Obama’s chance in November.  He is a Liberal in Disguise who supported huge bailouts, called Paul Ryan’s Plan “Right-Wing Social Engineering”, lobbied for FANNIE/FREDDIE for BIG BUCKS which helped bring down our economy and USHER IN OBAMA!,….treated 2 wives in a disgusting and undignified manner, Sat on a couch with Nancy Pelosi agreeing to support CAP and TRADE (that’s NOT a Conservative Position!)…he castigated Romney for having Fannie/Freddie Bonds WHEN GINGRICH HAS THEM HIMSELF!…He called Romney ‘Anti-Immigrant’ which is a LIE and even Tea Party favorite Marco Rubio urged Gingrich to stop…..This man is just PISS…..a piece of garbage who disgraces the Republican Party by just being on the ballot.

    • YERMOM

      and Romeny’s better how?

    • Anonymous

      He can beat Obama.

    • Phil Byler

No, Romney can’t beat Obama and won’t.  You are making the mistake so many are.  You will regret it.  Romney is a liberal.

Newt can beat Obama by making it an ideological election with conservatism as the winning card.

    • Anonymous

Newt cannot draw more than 20% moderates – and he’d be a huge gift for Obama…………Vote for Newt in the General Election and you get Obama…Congratulations!

    • DaDog

Bullshit. Fuck the moderates. Newt will DESTROY the Kenyan in a debate. A debate between Romney and Obama, you might as well put Obama in front of a mirror.

    • Anonymous

Newt got “destroyed” in a debate last week by Romney!….hahaha!!!!!

No he won’t. Because TRUE conservatives will not vote for him. They will be writing in Newt or Allen West like I will be. Romney is a tool of the elitist left. Just follow the money. Its the same bunch that shoved The Kenyan down our throat. Romney equals a 2nd term for Obama.

Here we go again!  ..Your all going to love this..

Was George Romney (father of Mitt Romney) a U.S. citizen?
Not according to the historical records

.b. Colonia Dublán, Galeana, Chihuahua, México, 8 July 1907, d. Bloomfield Hills, Mich., 26 July 1995

[SSDI 577-10-6742], bur. Fairview Cemetery, Brighton, Mich. m. Salt Lake City, Utah, 2 July 1931.George Romney was born in Mexico to expatriated Mormon parents.

George’s father is named Gaskell Romney. If George Romney was not a “U.S. citizen” or became naturalized
BEFORE Mitt was born, then neither can Mitt Romeny (his son) be natural born.

    This is straight forward FACT.

To be a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN … you must be born in the country and your parents must BOTH BE CITIZENS.

    BOTH REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET!

PARENTS can be born citizens or naturalized
(naturalized at the time of the child’s birth).

Wrong Mitt. Conservatives don’t trust you Sir for good
reason. Let’s just say, should you get the nomination knowing a majority of us
would vote for Triumph the Insult Dog to defer Obama another term also tells me
the GOP has learned no lessons of November 2010 and has settled once again for
the best of the dirties. Mr. Romney, should you get beyond the Obama debates
and become President of the United States and turn left? The treatment GW Bush received
by the left wing at the end of his term will pale in comparison. No? Try us.….EOM

300,000,000 fucking people and these three goddamned clowns are the best we got? We are so fucked.

    • Richwill

I tend to agree with you.  The GOP are experts at shooting themselves in the foot.

  • Phil Byler

I don’t like Romney.  He is a liberal.  He voted for Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale while Newt was a captain in the Reagan Revolution.  Romney, as Massachusetts Governor, raised taxes, was adamantly pro-abortion rights and championed RomneyCare, the precursor to ObamaCare.  And what Romney’s behavior in the GOP primaries shows is that what Romney stands for is using money to buy an election, lying and sleazy posturing.  As for the military, Romney has no feel for it and will continue the cuts.

  • DaDog

We are so screwed. There is really little difference between Romney and Obama. Romney is for big govt, and put through his own version of Obamacare, he is anti-gun, and he is pro-abortion. What the hell is wrong with the damn sheep that call themselves Republican? Why do we tolerate the same shit sandwich every 4 years? The ignorant hypnotised sheep are the biggest threat to America.

  • Bgdmswede

Help this go viral: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARnzBOkKAiE people love fact and humor. This has both.

  • Bgdmswede

I predict that by election year 2016 there will be 3 parties: DNC, liberals…Moderate Party (GOP)… and the Conservative Party. What will it take to make this happen? Leadership from Allen West, Sarah Palin and a host of others? The GOP is no more. Tina, the GOP haven’t learned their lessons during the past 2 decades! John McCain …REALLY!
