?”salam alaikum, hi yes, i’ll have a small berry blast, no, no wait…. peach smoothy and a list containing the locations of known terrorists and associates. Oh whats that now? You’re out of peach? Ok thats fine I’ll just take the terrorists.” – comment on picture by one of the men in it. (I love my combat sons’ sense of humor.)

Me: How close were you? My Son: Close enough. I would find out later that he had suffered minor injuries when his vehicle had hit this IED. The next one got him.

My son and his team…note the pinwheels on the headlights. Yes they drove around all day like that…till an officer finally noticed.

Yeah that is my son with the pinwheels… guess who put them on the Humvee.

Spc. Orlando A. Perez KIA 24 Feb 2008 at nearly the same moment my son was. He was the only other hero we lost in Iraq that horrible day.

Spc. Micheal “Pokey” Phillips, my son, KIA 24 Feb. 2008

Thank you for letting me share a little of my son with you on his Angel Day. TAKE LUCK

  • Dr Jerry

Sorry for your loss….my son LCpl. Eric D. Hillenburg was KIA in Fallujah, Iraq on 12-23-04…they were real heros….God bless them both and may God bless you and your family. And may He bless America again.

    Dr Jerry and Angelia,

What can any of us say to you ? The loss must be unimaginable.

But if I may, I would like to express my condolences, and mention how thankful I am for men like your sons.

I am also, as I am sure you are, proud of them, and all who serve our country. The world is a far better place for them having been born into it, and I do hope that some day, eventually, the hurt becomes easier to manage, the smiles come quicker, and the memories of your loved ones bring you some amount of comfort.

  • Angelia

I will remember Eric always. *hugs*

  • Kim Cliftrn

Thank you for sharing Angelia, I’m so sorry for your and Dr Jerry’s loss.  These guys are the true heros with the right stuff !!

  • CplUsmc

I was with 1/6 in Fallujah ’05.  We relieved 3/5.  Those guys went through the ringer for sure.  God bless them all.

  • YERMOM

Thanks Angelia, I’ll hug my kid next time I have him and think of you and your son.

  • YERMOM

    Amen

  • Whoeft

    God bless you.

  • Dr Jerry

Thank you, same to you-all, and God’s speed to you and your family:

“Greater love hath no man that this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”  John 15: 13 (KJV)

Those young men loved us as much as we love them…they gave their lives for us…out of love…love for God and Country yes, but also love for family and friends.  And there is no greater love than that!

They shall never be forgotten…I know we can never forget.

We are not supposed have to bury our children. Losing a
child in an accident or illness is one thing but

Losing a child in war is over the top God Bless you Angelia
    and Dr.Jerry.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there… I do not sleep.
I am the thousand winds that blow…
I am the diamond glints on snow…
I am the sunlight on ripened grain…
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you waken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of gentle birds in circling flight…
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry—
    I am not there… I did not die…
