Apr 4, 2012 27 Comments ›› Pat Dollard

“Mormonism was created by a guy in Upstate New York in 1830 when he got caught having sex with the maid and explained to his wife that God told him to do it. 48 wives later Joseph Smith’s lifestyle was completely sanctified in the religion he invented to go along with it, which Mitt Romney says he believes.”

Yeah, it’s fair game for the Dems and they WILL use it.

The commenters on Freerepublic commonly call Mormonism a “cult” and insist that Mormons are not Christian.

Sounds like islam, except it’s goats instead of maids.

Not that I care much what NBC thinks, but as a Christian I have studied the Morman faith and as most Christians believe they are a cult and a very political dangerous one.  There is much information available but here is a few.  Please pass this on:

Denominations within the Christian church consider Mormonism a “theological” cult, as opposed to a sociological cult.  For example Southern Baptists consider Mormonism a theological cult.  I would say most Christians feel the same way also.

Lawrence O’Donnell was probably stating information he found on the internet but for the most part what was being said is basically true.  The founder of Mormonism was Joseph Smith Jr. and as noted, he was a flagrant polygamist.  A person would have to deliberately keep “blinders on” not to realize that Mormonism is a “made up” religious sect which was formed mainly as a way to justify adultery.  Polygamy was a main tenant and doctrine of Mormonism for many years until it got in the way of Utah becoming a state in the Union.  Mormons and thereby Mormonism wanted to survive in America and in order to do so they had to give up polygamy and other weird beliefs before Congress would allow Utah (the land in and around that area) to enter into statehood.

Polygamy is still practiced in certain areas within Utah and in certain other states, but it was banned by the Mormon hierarchy in 1890 in writings contained within the “Manifesto” by the Mormon church, six years before Utah became a state.  Polygamy is illegal in all 50 states after Congress banned the practice outright.  But even though that’s the case, there is currently a show on cable TV glorifying polygamy in the 21st century.  Also pedophile, sex offender, prison inmate Warren Jeffs, leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, still has a relatively large following in the state of Texas and elsewhere, who continue to practice polygamy and pedophilia.

Sadly, Willard Mitt Romney… better known as Mittens… who, by the way, probably WON’T take the gloves off (mitts off) when he goes against Obama in the general election… much to the chagrin of Republicans and Independents who want a candidate who WILL take the gloves off when facing Obama – is sadly following a theological “cult” and my only hope and prayer is if he wins in November, he won’t allow the Mormon hierarchy to dictate and overrule his policies and decisions as president of the United States.

But the truth is, the teachings of Mormonism command its followers to “give everything” for the cause of Mormonism.  In other words, Mormonism demands Mitt Romney place the tenants of Mormonism above “everything” including his role as President of the United States.  If he actually becomes the nominee and wins in November that is.  In other words, if Romney wants to remain in good standing within the Mormon church, he MUST “bow down” to the dictates of the Mormon hierarchy and follow their command(s); not necessarily the laws and admonitions contained within the US Constitution (if they conflict with Mormon teaching – which evolves every so often), the laws of the land, or the will of the American people.  In other words… Romney is obligated to follow and obey the Mormon church hierarchy (Mormon teaching) above and beyond that of his role as President of the United States.  Sad, but true.

Plus, if Mitt Romney becomes President of the United States, the notorious “etch-a-sketch” analogy used by one of his senior staff members could happen, and consequently, what we see right now on the campaign trail concerning Mitt Romney i.e. the conservative talking points, etc., may NOT necessarily translate into reality if he becomes President of the United States.  He could very well… shake it all up… and start all over like his senior staff member alluded to.

He could possibly end up governing the country as the liberal he was well known for as Governor of Massachusetts… raising taxes (fees), bloating government, keeping Planned Parenthood afloat, morally compromising his positions – even performing several gay weddings himself; and of course instituting his ROMNEYCARE debacle – which was the blueprint for OBAMACARE… and thus basically ruining health-care in the state of Massachusetts – with the highest health insurance premiums in the entire country – longer and longer wait times to see a doctor – “rationing” of services as they try to stave off enormous “debt” and “deficits” which ROMNEYCARE has caused once it was implemented.  Not to mention the thousands and thousands of jobs (over 18,000 by some estimates) ‘lost’ due to the ruthless takeover of the health care system in Massachusetts by Willard Mitt Romney with his dastardly ROMNEYCARE monstrosity which is destroying competent health care in the state of Massachusetts even as we speak.

What makes you think a man who continues to “fully support” and tout the individual mandate in Romneycare, would do away with the individual mandate in Obamacare? They are basically exact replicas of each other and Romney continues to call his debacle in Massachusetts one of his greatest achievements ever!  Even as he continues to doggedly defend and support the “individual mandate” in Romneycare to this very day!

Romneycare and Obamacare are essentially identical twins, one at the state level and the other at the federal level.  If the U.S. Supreme Court decides not to strike down Obamacare and Mitt Romney becomes President – don’t look for Romney to repeal Obamacare once he’s in office either.  How can Mitt Romney repeal what is essentially the same thing as his own “accomplishment” in Massachusetts? Which, by the way, he continues to fully support and defend to this very day?  Not likely.

The American people should be very leery of Mitt Romney if indeed he becomes president.  Actions speak louder than words and so far Romney is simply “talking a conservative talk”, since we have yet to see him “walk the conservative walk.”  Which he might be incapable of after living such a long time as a certified liberal in disguise as a Republican.  My two cents worth.

PS: I’ll vote for the guy if he becomes the nominee (anybody but Obama), but I might have to hold my nose when I do.  And then pray if he becomes president he’ll keep his promises and word to the American people which he made on the campaign trail, once he’s in office.  Time will tell.  Don’t hold your breath though.  I know, I know. I’m really skeptical of Romney’s so-called conservative credentials.  The only way to determine a person’s true character is to look at his previous deeds and accomplishments in life.  Mitt Romney was a certified liberal… until he decided to run for president back in 2007.  Voters didn’t trust his so-called conservatism back then, albeit, this time around more and  more people have warmed up to him – but mainly because they want a candidate who has the best chance to beat Obama, first and foremost.  Romney’s millions will probably come in handy in the general election no doubt too.  But when you settle for a “middle of the road” moderate (even though he may ‘look’ presidential and claim to be a conservative), voters may wind up with a “loss” in November.  Just like what happened with moderate candidate(s) Gerald Ford in 1976, Bob Dole in 1988 and John McCain in 2008.  Time will tell.

If Romney’s pulling the wool over the American people’s eyes, look out!  If he wins the presidency and then governs as a liberal, there could very well be a revolt within the Republican Party and the Tea Party could potentially come in and severely undermine and potentially even replace the Republican Party as the Party and voice of conservatism.  So instead of what is now Democrats and Republicans (the current two party system), could be rearranged into the Tea Party vs. Democrats and thus a new two party system perhaps.  In other words, adios Republican Party!  Its days could be numbered.  Especially if Romney gets in office and then governs as a liberal.  Can you say, REVOLUTION!  I think conservatives everywhere would likely revolt against Romney (and the Republican Party) if Romney gets in and then has an “etch-a-sketch” moment and decides to tack LEFT.  He’d still be better than socialist Obama though.  At least I hope so.

Sounds as if the below comments have predjudice behind them, and were formed from information presented by the main stream media not from what one might say is the “horses mouth.” Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the church in general expend great efforts to educate and inform all who will listen and encourage all to find out for themselves. I would encourage you all to find their local representatives and ask them your questions they will do all they can to give you full and complete answers and allow you to find out for yourselves they are not hard to find and they will present the information in a non judgemental non hostile way and allow you to form your own opinion.

As for the charge that Romney will do all that the hierarchy of his church tell him to I give the counter example of Harry Reid who professes to be a “mormon” but as a former co-worker pointede out “he does not act like or do anything like any mormons I know.” My own observations show his actions at many if not most times in direct contradiction to what I know of the tennants of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Please, before you continue your demonization of a group of people and a church, whose very name conveys their deep convictions and their deep belief in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, consider the source of the information, and ask could that source possible have some alterior motives to what they say. For example doing anything to discredit the presumptive nominee of the opposing political party.

If you believe this about Joseph Smith you will believe anything you are told.  It is not true, he never committed adultery at any time!  The Obama people are trying anything to change people’s minds so they can have another 4 years to continue to ruin this country.  This is a huge example of religious persecution from the present administration.  Whenever there is a natural disaster the L.D.S. are among the first to be there to help with food and other supplies. IE:  New Orleans flood, hurricanes in the east and south, earthquakes in Japan, Haiti and so on.
I have lived among the L.D.S. people for 60 years and know them to be honest, and concerned about their neighbors.  Romney is a very good man and if elected he will  be at the very least the equivalent of President Reagan.  Give him a chance.

Unless you find the information from the church itself you will not find the truth, just ignorance and persecution.  If I want to know about the Baptists I go to the Baptists, etc.

They believe in Jesus Christ, they believe in the Bible and they also believe in the restored scriptures, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price.  Look them up and read them, you will see in every paragraph the love of Christ, God and the Holy Ghost.

Not true. Ridiculous! Absurd. Anyone who knows a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will see through this bigoted/slanted sorry excuse for news.

Whoa.  O’Donnell tries to end his career with a totally slanderous false statement about a solid religion.  If there was one accurate comment in his diatribe, it was only that he got the name of the church right.

Even the devil believes in Jesus Christ; but that is not who the mormans worship.  You obviously have not read the links I posted.  And I have did my research (from both sides) and have listened to the people that have came out of that faith.  The morman heirarchy and their Smith and Young discourses have never banned polygamy and it have always been their agenda to takeover the government and avenge the blood of Joseph Smith.  You all support this candidate at your own peril, since Romney is a Temple graduate.

  • Sulli159

See my other comment to you.  The Book of Morman conflicts very much with the discourses by Young and Joseph Smith and I have listened to many bad dreams from the people that left mormanism.

Thanks so much for your post:  And I might add, his gun control legislation in Mass…:

Mitt Romney has a record of being anti-gun.He supported the Clinton Gun Ban in 1994, telling The Boston Herald “that’s not going to make me the hero of the NRA. I don’t line up with a lot of special interest groups.” Not only that, but four years ago when he ran for president, he affirmed to Tim Russert on “Meet the Press” he would have signed a renewal of the failed gun control law.As governor of Massachusetts in 2002, he signed into law what was described as “one of the toughest assault weapons laws in the country.”

Oh Hell.. so Smith had sex with another woman, so did Clinton, Kennedy, and FDR.. and they were not Mormons.. so what does that say. Nada.. once again the President needs to look to himself.. and as for Catholics the Priest have done children.. so is that better?? wish people would just stop this crap . that is why I am UN CHURCH.. don’t attend any one of them..

  • LockandLoad_v2

I am not a mormon, but it seems clear that they have the same rights as others under the constitution to practice their religion freely. The media is silently enacting a religious test against candidates by condemning or praising them based on their religious beliefs – an entirely unconstitutional exercise. They praise muslim candidates like Keith Ellison, but drag Romney through broken glass.  Amazing how we must bow and scrape, jump through burning hoops to appease, mollify and frankly, kiss ass of the islamic religion to avoid ANY possible offense to them…. yet any other religion is open season to the leftists when it suits their purposes.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZJQTO5UGOFSMXXDI6XO6X5WFOE Joe Jackson

This is total lies. Joseph Smith only had 33 wives, not 48. And he started marrying multiple women after starting the church, not before. Sheesh. Get your facts straight.

  • mystate2

Disqus generic email templateI have been in the LDS church since I was 8 years (I am now 70 and have held many church positions) old and have gone to many Protestant churches with friends as I was growing up. I have also studied other churches. I have read all the standard works of the church and Bible many times over and I know that religious contention is of the devil. If you listen to the writings and ravings of the anti-Mormons you will only reap what you sew from what you listen to. There is no inconsistencies between the teachings of either Joseph Smith or Brigham Young, nor between the Bible and Book of Mormon….. only if you do not understand the messages given will you find fault. We as “Mormons” love everyone and we know that other faiths have much good and truth in them, that is not a problem with us. You should respect all religions whether Mormon, Islam, Catholic, Baptist, etc. I do respect them and what they believe. This country will faulter and fail if we do not all stick together against evil. I believe Obama and his administration are not God fearing people and wish to change the very fiber of this country from the original constitutional concepts that were established for us all to live by. I pray for you that your attitude can be modified and you can find it in your heart to respect other ways of thinking because now you are now headed in the wrong direction, —– Original Message —–

What a bunch of lies. . . .  Unreal that anyone with any conscience at all would attack another person’s religion and believe everything they hear from the non-mormon people who hate mormons or mormonism.  If you want the truth, look to the source who knows it.  The church themselves . . . . Obama has an agenda and he uses the media to achieve it.  Too bad they are so blind (or so evil) they are willing to lie or do anything else to achieve their own agenda and change this country into an eventual dictatorship.  So scary. . . come on people, wake up.

  • Paula Hurren

Can you support your assertion that Romney would do only what the hierarchy of the church tells him to do? Can you detail examples of Orrin Hatch doing this? Robert Bennett? Reed Smoot? Wallace Bennett? Jake Garn? All Mormons. Just curious to see if you can back up your words. By the way, the word you want is “tenet” not “tenant.”
