Is Race Obama’s Only Saving Grace?

It’s no secret that to some, race was a large factor in the 2008 election; many of President Obama’s voters (liberal and conservative alike) admitted that they were voting for him because they wanted to be “a part of history.” You saw it repeatedly on the video clips on any network you chose to watch. Voting for someone because of race, sex or anything other than their ability to move our country in a positive direction is in itself a form of racism. Or sexism. Or whateverism. If you truly want to be “racism free”, don’t allow it to be a factor in your decision-making process. It’s that simple.

Many conservatives are still gun-shy about criticizing the President on certain issues for fear of the unwarranted accusation of being racist, and many liberals displeased with the direction of our country will vote for President Obama again because they don’t want to think of themselves as racist. Many just hate to admit that they were wrong.

Are there racists in America? Sadly, the answer is yes. But they are a very small minority. When I discuss politics with friends, the only ones to bring up race are liberals. My conservative friends only talk about policies, economic issues and world affairs. Bringing up race only serves to create or deepen racial divides, and does nothing to erase them.

My advice to the liberal leadership in America? If you want to practice what you preach, focus on the issues. Stop using race to further your agenda. The only boogeyman that exists is the one that you are creating yourselves; if you stop dropping the race card where there is no issue, the racial divides will heal themselves, and eventually go away.

But you already know that, don’t you.
