Excerpted from Tampa Bay Times: TAMPA — Dressed in head-to-toe hot pink and holding giant, fake vaginas, a group of about a dozen Code Pink protesters stationed themselves outside the Faith and Freedom VIP luncheon on Sunday afternoon.
The San Francisco-based women’s group was protesting the Republican stance on abortion and universal health care, among other things.
“We are in opposition to the right-wing agenda that wages war on women’s bodies,” said organizer and Code Pink co-founder Rae Abileah, 29. “Given the political climate right now, it’s really important to emphasize women’s rights and reproductive rights.”
The group started the day protesting outside the luncheon at the University Club, and after about 30 minutes marched up Tampa Street with plans to split up and go to various other rallies in the area.
Ann Wright, holding a plush vagina in one hand and a “Hands off my vagina” sign in the other, said the “attack” on women’s rights is only one of the group’s issues with the Republicans.
