Excerpted from The Ticket: Paul Ryan says he’s a big fan of the band Rage Against the Machine, but not surprisingly, it’s an unrequited love.
Rage guitarist Tom Morello penned a 467-word rant in Rolling Stone against the Republican vice presidential candidate Thursday night:
Paul Ryan’s love of Rage Against the Machine is amusing, because he is the embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against for two decades.
…
Ryan claims that he likes Rage’s sound, but not the lyrics. Well, I don’t care for Paul Ryan’s sound or his lyrics.
But it looks like Ryan may have the last laugh. Romney-Ryan campaign ads are running on Rage music videos on YouTube:
(POLITICO) Rep. Paul Ryan has incited the rage of one of his favorite bands.
Tom Morello, guitarist for Rage Against the Machine, slams Ryan in a column published on Rolling Stone on Thursday.
“Paul Ryan’s love of Rage Against the Machine is amusing, because he is the embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against for two decades,” Morello writes of Mitt Romney’s newly tapped running mate. “…He can like whatever bands he wants, but his guiding vision of shifting revenue more radically to the one percent is antithetical to the message of Rage.”
Morello goes on to say that Ryan does have “a whole lotta ‘rage’ in him” but describes it as “a rage against women, a rage against immigrants, a rage against workers, a rage against gays, a rage against the poor, a rage against the environment.”
“Basically, the only thing he’s not raging against is the privileged elite he’s groveling in front of for campaign contributions,” the guitarist writes.
