What they’re really upset about here is Romney making it okay to joke about – ie, even mention – Obama’s birth certificate. Hence the scared reference to it being “hip” and “ironic post-birtherism”, i.e. cool, to do so. Also, I love how he says “everyone knows” that any mention of the birth certificate is “coded” racism.
Beltway Confidential: “Loud cheers!” MSNBC host Alex Wagner said, mocking the crowd after playing a clip of the joke. “‘Oh yes, you are an American, unlike our socialist Mau-Mau in chief.’”
MSNBC host Chris Hayes suggested that it was like some sort of “hipster racism.”
