Excerpted from The Hill: President Obama’s campaign is looking to build anticipation for Thursday night’s acceptance speech with a new video highlighting achievements from the president’s first term.
The Web ad, titled “Promises Kept,” uses clips of Obama’s 2008 acceptance speech to argue that the president has made good on the pledges he made during his last White House run.
Among the claims: that Obama signed 18 tax cuts, created 4.5 million private-sector jobs, ended the war in Iraq and signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. The video also credits Obama for saving the U.S. auto industry, passing the Affordable Care Act and investing in alternative energy.
“President Obama has kept the promises he made in 2008 to move our country forward,” the statement continued.
Obama will give his acceptance speech Thursday night in Charlotte, N.C. White House adviser David Plouffe, during an interview with NBC News earlier Thursday, said the president would use the speech to outline his plans for a second term.
“It will be clear where he thinks we need to go,” Plouffe said. “This whole week has also laid out a choice, which is — it’s a question for the American people: Who can you trust to build a kind of economy that’s going to work for the middle class?”
