Via The Washington Times:
nhappy with the list of witnesses scheduled to testify at Wednesday’s gun violence Senate hearing, Sen. Dianne Feinstein says she plans to hold a separate hearing with witnesses more inclined to back gun control.
The hearing, first reported in Politico, will focus on Mrs. Feinstein’s support for a ban on military-style semiautomatic rifles, commonly called assault weapons.
Mrs. Feinstein’s spokesman told The Washington Times it was too early to know what witnesses she will call.
Wednesday’s hearing before the Judiciary Committee, arranged by Chairman Patrick J. Leahy, will including Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president and CEO of the National Rifle Association, a group that has vigorously opposed Mr. Obama’s proposals.
Also appearing will be retired astronaut Mark Kelly, the husband of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was gravely wounded during a mass shooting in Tucson, Ariz., in January 2011; David Kopel, adjunct professor of advanced constitutional law at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law; James Johnson, chief of police for Baltimore County, Md.; and Gayle Trotter, a lawyer and senior fellow of the Independent Women’s Forum.
Mrs. Feinstein told Politico the witnesses were “skewed to the anti-gun, anti-assault weapons position.”
