Obama Has Now Increased National Debt More Than All Presidents From George Washington Through George H.W. Bush Combined

CNS:

The Obama administration passed another fiscal milestone this week, according to new data released by the Treasury Department. As of the close of business on Oct. 3, the total national debt was $14,837,099,271,196.71—up about $44.8 billion from Sept. 30.

That means that in the less-than-three-years Obama has been in office, the federal debt has increased by $4.212 trillion–more than the total national debt of about $4.1672 trillion accumulated by all 41 U.S. presidents from George Washington through George H.W. Bush combined.

This $4.212-trillion increase in the national debt means that during Obama’s term the federal government has already borrowed about an additional $35,835 for every American household–or $44,980 for every full-time private-sector worker. (According to the Census Bureau there were about 117,538,000 households in the country in 2010, and, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were about 93,641,000 full-time private-sector workers.)

When Obama was inaugurated on Jan. 20, 2009, according to the Treasury Department, the total national debt stood at $10,626,877,048,913.08.

      You’re math doesn’t work…
If all the other presidents combined accrued a national debt of 4.1672 Trillion, then how was the national debt 10.6 trillion when Obama was inaugurated? Plus, most of that debt comes from paying for Bush’s wars.

You read the story wrong.  He added more to debt than Washington to George H.W. not George W.  Also those numbers dont include $2 trillion for Obamacare because he set it up to not start until after hes out of office, but the next president will have to deal with that mess.  Yes the wars do cost a lot but Obama spent more in 19 months then Bush did in 8yrs. He has spent an average of $1.1 trillion per year more than George W. Bush did.  If he spends at the same rate and is elected to a second term he will add over 13 trillion dollars to the debt, where Bush added 4.  So dont even attempt to compare.

You are counting the $ 2.7 trillion the new accounting method is now including – Obama didn’t spend the extra $ 2.7 trillion -  – the change he made to accurately count it only means that the earlier numbers were short by $2.7 trillion.  But, by all means blame him for changing the accounting to be accurate and finding $ 2.7 trillion the last guy massaged under the table.
