Jim Carrey released a statement on Friday, apparently very butt-hurt over Fox News’s Greg Gutfeld’s incisive and cutting responses to his ‘Cold Dead Hands’ video, in which Carrey has no problem viciously slandering both middle America and the very dead and very unable to defend himself Charlton Heston. In the statement he very pointedly says that he’s thought about suing Fox for criticizing him. He says he’s not going to, but the point of bringing it up at all is to let the world know that he COULD and MIGHT, in order to scare anybody else away from similarly fighting back against him. What a glass-jawed bully. This has gotta be the clearest case of “can dish it out but can’t take it” that I’ve seen in a media personalities battle, EVER.
You can read the statement below this video of Greg’s first counter-attack, a tour-de-force which absolutely eviscerates both Carrey and his ‘Cold Dead Hands’ messages. Also notable is that Carrey has never been able to muster any actual rebuttals to Greg’s critiques beyond the name-calling you’ll see in the statement, and has dodged an invitation by Greg to debate the gun control issue and the video on The Five.
Carrey’s full statement, via the Hollywood Reporter:
Since I released my “Cold Dead Hand” video on Funny or Die this week, I have watched Fux News rant, rave, bare its fangs and viciously slander me because of my stand against large magazines and assault rifles. I would take them to task legally if I felt they were worth my time or that anyone with a brain in their head could actually fall for such irresponsible buffoonery. That would gain them far too much attention which is all they really care about.
I’ll just say this: in my opinion Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue.
I sincerely believe that in time, good people will lose patience with the petty and poisonous behavior of these bullies and Fux News will be remembered as nothing more than a giant culture fart that no amount of Garlique could cure.
I wish them all the luck that accompanies such malevolence.
